Providing food and toys to children during the holidays can be a struggle for many families across America. Due to the hardships of the pandemic and amongst many other reasons, many communities and organizations lack the resources and donations to meet the needs of this growing population.

Colony has supported and continues to assist community-based organizations and local shelters in providing these items to families in need through our annual Bob Balasco Toy and Food Drive. In addition to our efforts in giving back to our local communities, we will also be hosting our annual virtual volunteer event where we will be partnering up with Generus to build and paint toy cars and trucks, jump ropes and skateboards to be donated to children!

Building Toy Trucks

Play is essential to healthy child development and helps children remain resilient against the effects of stress and trauma. Around the world, many children do not have access to playthings that are essential for their well-being. During this event, volunteers will work with an artist to design, paint, and assemble toy cars and trucks to be donated to children in need of playthings. Volunteers can work from predesigned models or may customize the cars with their own design. Toy car and truck kits, with all needed supplies, will be distributed to volunteers prior to the event.

Building Skateboards

Skateboarding has been shown to promote physical and mental health. Research has shown skateboarding  has been used to build community, reduce crime, and provide needed therapeutic outlets. Explore how individuality in skate culture supports trauma-informed practice, promoting choice and voice. Volunteers will begin by designing a one-of-a-kind skateboard with curated design supplies and will then assemble a complete skateboard to be donated to social impact partners using skateboarding to promote mental and physical health while building acceptance, resilience, and community. Skateboard kits with all needed design supplies, hardware, and tools, will be provided.

Building Jump Ropes

Learn how to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce circumstances preventing children from engaging in physical activity. Learn about and celebrate the history and culture of Double Dutch. The jump ropes you assemble will provide resources to afterschool programs to engage children in physical activity and outdoor play. Volunteers will create jump ropes to be donated to programs which support healthy lifestyles and active outdoor play for children. Jump rope kits are provided with all the needed supplies.

Experience Magical Hosts
